Neil Brown jade sculpture

Neil Brown jade sculpture is distinctive and unique. These artworks have been evolving over the last four decades.

The jade components are easily lifted from their bases, enabling handling and appreciation of the stone's tactile quality.

The past decade has seen Neil sculpting in a larger scale, with the work becoming elongated or stretched, giving it a fine sleek look. Familiar Maori design elements haven't disappeared entirely, but are buried deeper within the composition as Neil increasingly moves into his own artistic territory.

The sculpture bases are carefully considered. They may be formal rectangular granite plinths or natural free form greywacke pebbles that Neil has carved with relief surface decoration. All are signed. Connecting the jade sculptures to their bases are mounts made from steel or oxidized sterling silver.

Gallery Pacific showcases this fine New Zealand sculpture.
