Luke Jacomb Studio cast glass 'Wall Birds'
Luke Jacomb Studio is an Auckland based art - glass studio founded in 2008 by American Katherine Rutecki and local boy Luke Jacomb. Both artists were already independently established within the studio glass movement, before collaborating in New Zealand to develop this range of cast glass birds.
The multi coloured birds are New Zealand species, including the Tui and Fantail. They are sculptures designed to be mounted on the wall, singly or most effectively in a flock of multiples.

Bird making process
Luke Jacomb Studio glass artists employ the lost wax casting technique to make these bird sculptures. This process involves several steps, culminating in melting lead crystal into a mold where it solidifies, becoming a solid glass object with colour and translucence . Each bird is then hand finished, a screw embedded into its back to enable wall mounting, and signed by the artist.
